Results from clinical
trial of Hanmi's new drug (HM61713) were presented at ASCO
Hanmi pharmaceutical company announced on 3rd that phase II/III interim report
of their targeted anti-cancer drug, HM61713, was presented at American Society
of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) which was held from May 30th to June 3rd at Chicago,
US.
HM61713 was selected as a subject to be presented at the symposium of
lung cancer (title: EGFR targeted anti-cancer drug over next 10 years) and
Professor Dong Wan Kim from the Oncology Department of Seoul National University
Hospital announced the results.
According to their findings, HM61713, an
anti-cancer drug that selectively inhibits mutation of EGFR (epidermal growth
factor receptor) which participates on the growth of cancer, showed efficacy on
disease control in 36 out of 48 (75%) patients with T790M mutation-positive lung
cancer who had been tolerant with prior EGFR TKI treatment and showed an actual
decrease in the size of tumor in 14 patients (29%).
“There had been a lot of
progress on the treatment of lung cancer but we still need more efficient
treatments.”, “The results from our clinical trial are significant since HM61714
has shown its possibility to overcome the tolerance of first generation EGFR TIK
which is being used as the standard treatment line for patients with EGFR
mutation-positive lung cancer.” said Professor Kim, the Head
researcher.
Based on the results of this clinical trial, Hanmi pharmaceutical
plans to initiate global Phase II of HM61713 in the second half of 2014.
